Are you looking for life to have more meaning?

Is your interest in finding a balance to life’s busy pace?

Would you like to deepen a spiritual practice?

What is Meditation?

Meditation is one the most natural and rewarding of human activities. The practice of meditation is a tool we can use to help calm the busy mind and relax the body’s tension. After both of these things begin to happen the state of meditative awareness begins. Think of meditation as GPS coordinates, an inner compass helping us navigate to a place of inner wisdom.

Meditation’s original and highest purpose is to awaken our spiritual nature but the benefits to the physical body and mental health are well established in medical research.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Reduced stress and tension
  • Improved ability to concentrate
  • Feeling happier, more relaxed and at peace
  • Improved health, mental clarity, and vitality
  • A more intuitive, heart-centered way of life
  • Discovering and exploring your spiritual nature

Origins

Paramhansa Yogananda is the Yogi responsible for bringing this meditation technique to the West. He came to America from India in 1920. Yogananda was a tireless lecturer traveling extensively around the country teaching the benefits of meditation and lecturing on the mystical traditions of Krishna and Christ emphasizing the underlying truths shared by all religions. Eventually, he settled in Los Angeles where he continued teaching meditation until his death in 1952.

All are Welcome

Any level of meditation experience is welcome: individuals with no meditation background as well as those with experience, individuals who practice meditation from another tradition, spiritual seekers from any religious affiliation, and anyone just curious about the practice of meditation. Come and join us in your individual search and efforts to improve your life.

Individualized Instruction

Learning to meditate is a unique and individual experience. Classes are kept purposefully small usually under 10 students. The small class size gives time for questions and individual help with specifics such as finding a comfortable sitting position, how to locate a time and place to meditate, quieting the busy mind, and sustaining a practice.

Teachers

All instructors are long-time meditators and certified teachers of Ananda® Meditation.  The meditation techniques taught have been in continuous practice in India and throughout Asia for thousands of years. Ananda meditation is non-sectarian and has no rules or dogma. It is a meditation practice for anyone seeking to improve their quality of life, overall health and/or to deepen a spiritual practice. Ananda meditation can respectfully be combined with spiritual practices from any religious faith.

Level I: Introduction to Meditation is a great introduction. Even from the first class I felt confident to meditate on my own.  ” Sheila Van der Smissen

“I can’t recommend Anne Scheid’s meditation class enough. It is thoughtful, calming, centering and extremely informative. I have walked away with a changed relationship to meditation and feel I have learned techniques that have improved my approach in a remarkable way. If you wish to learn more about meditation, or wish to become a more serious meditator, I highly recommend it.” Selena Mitchell

“Introduction to meditation is wonderful. I loved the practical techniques I could start using from day one. Every class strengthened daily meditation practice, and I’ve learned the foundation of what meditation is. Anne helped me find ways to bring meditation into my own life, and overcome my unique challenges. I would recommend this class to everyone.”
